when to use recirculated air in car

Use your car's recirculated air setting primarily to block outside pollutants and odors, or to cool the cabin faster on a hot day. The system closes the exterior air intake, recirculating the air already inside the car. This is most effective when driving through tunnels, behind diesel trucks, or in heavy traffic where exhaust fumes are present. It's also the best setting for initial cooldown with the A/C, as it cools the existing cabin air instead of constantly trying to cool hot outside air.

However, prolonged use can lead to stale air and foggy windows. Recirculation mode prevents fresh air from entering, allowing humidity from your breath to build up. This moisture can quickly cause the windows to fog, especially in cold or humid weather. It’s crucial to switch back to fresh air mode once the cabin is comfortable or if window fogging begins.

For optimal use, think of recirculation as a temporary tool. Engage it for specific, short-term needs, then switch back to fresh air to maintain good air quality and visibility. Modern cars with automatic climate control often manage this switch automatically, using sensors to detect pollutants and humidity.

I flip the recirculation button the second I hit a tunnel or get stuck behind a smelly truck. It’s a no-brainer for keeping exhaust fumes out. I also use it for the first few minutes with the A/C on a scorching day—it cools the car down way faster. But I never leave it on for a long trip, or the windows get all foggy and the air feels stuffy. It’s a great shortcut, not a set-it-and-forget-it thing.

My car has an auto mode for the climate control, and I just let it handle the recirculation. It seems to kick in recirc automatically when it senses bad outside air, like from other cars' exhaust. I’ve noticed it also switches back to fresh air on its own to prevent the windows from fogging up. For me, the best use case is trusting the car's sensors to make the decision, so I don't have to think about it.

As someone with pretty bad allergies, I'm very deliberate about this. I use recirculate with the A/C during high pollen seasons or if there's a lot of dust in the air. It makes a huge difference in reducing my symptoms. The cabin air filter does the heavy lifting, but it needs the recirc setting to be effective. I just make sure to change that filter regularly, as recommended in the manual, to keep the air clean inside my car.

Think of it in terms of energy efficiency. Using recirculated air reduces the workload on your air conditioner. Instead of cooling down hot, humid air from outside, the A/C is re-cooling the already-chilled air inside the cabin. This can slightly improve your fuel economy on a long, hot drive. The key is balance. Use recirculation to get comfortable efficiently, but switch to fresh air periodically to maintain a healthy oxygen level and avoid the greenhouse effect that leads to window fogging.

Where is the OBD port on Dongfeng Fengguang?

The OBD interface of Dongfeng Fengguang is located behind the glove box on the passenger side. You can see the interface by removing the glove box. The OBD port of a car mainly has four functions: 1. Display of engine control unit data: The OBD port can provide various operational data of the vehicle, such as data displayed on the vehicle dashboard, fuel consumption records, battery voltage, air-fuel ratio, throttle opening, knock count, etc.; 2. Reading fault codes: The OBD port can be used to read fault codes, which helps in quickly diagnosing vehicle faults and reducing manual diagnosis time; 3. Changing codes to achieve more functions: By connecting the vehicle's CAN bus through the OBD port's data cable and adjusting the codes of various modules, many different 'hidden' functions can be achieved, enabling 'additional configurations'; 4. Reading and flashing ECU and TCU programs: This allows manufacturers to update the ECU control program at any time, but it is not recommended to modify it yourself.

What to Do When the Throttle Gets Stuck?

First of all, don't panic. It's crucial to calm yourself down, as panicking could lead to even bigger mistakes. Cut off the engine's power output by shifting the car into neutral gear, because if the throttle gets stuck, the RPM won't drop.
