I've had to do this a few times. Connect everything up, then just give it a solid three or four minutes. You're basically letting the good battery share a little juice to get the dead one just enough life to crank. Don't rush it. If it doesn't start after the first try, wait another couple of minutes before trying again. After it starts, the most important thing is to drive it around for a good half-hour so the alternator can actually recharge it.
