What transmission does the MG6 use?

The MG6 transmission is jointly developed by SAIC and General Motors. The TST dual-clutch transmission is a dry dual-clutch transmission (DCT) type, which eliminates the need for related hydraulic systems, making it lighter overall compared to wet dual-clutch transmissions. Additionally, the dry clutch itself is highly efficient in transmitting torque, significantly improving fuel economy. The MG6 transmission uses either a 6-speed manual transmission or a new-generation 7-speed DCT280 wet dual-clutch transmission. A manual transmission is a gear-shifting device used to alter the engine's speed and torque delivered to the drive wheels, enabling the car to achieve different traction forces and speeds under various conditions such as starting from a standstill, climbing hills, turning, and accelerating. When using the MG6 transmission in daily driving, the following points should be noted: Do not delay changing the transmission oil for extended periods. Prolonged failure to change the transmission oil can damage internal components such as bearings and the housing. Avoid coasting in neutral for long durations. While many experienced drivers coast in neutral when driving manual transmission vehicles, doing so in automatic transmission models can cause overheating and create a jolt when shifting back into D (Drive) mode. Never shift into D/R (Drive/Reverse) before the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Many drivers shift directly into reverse while the car is still moving to showcase their "smooth" operation, but this can severely damage the transmission gears and, over time, lead to gear grinding or other failures. Avoid frequently climbing steep slopes in D mode. Automatic transmission vehicles can overheat due to high loads or shift too early, resulting in insufficient power for climbing. In such cases, use manual mode to limit low gears or switch to sport mode to protect the transmission. Do not tow the vehicle over long distances. If an automatic transmission vehicle breaks down, use a flatbed tow truck to move it onto the tow platform while the transmission is in N (Neutral). Avoid using tow ropes or dragging the vehicle directly.
