What to Do When the Car Clutch Cable Breaks?

Start the engine while in gear. Since the clutch cannot be disengaged, the starter will directly drive the engine and transmission together during startup. Start the vehicle and push it to get moving. If there is a downhill section, letting the car coast can also achieve the same effect. Then, the driver can shift into gear and drive normally.
When I first started driving, I encountered a broken clutch cable, which was quite alarming but required calm handling. First, slowly move the car to a safe area by the roadside and turn on the hazard warning lights to alert others. Don’t attempt to shift gears or force the car to drive, as this could cause more severe damage to the transmission. Immediately call for roadside assistance or a tow truck to take the car away, because once the clutch cable connecting the pedal to the transmission is broken, you can’t engage the clutch or shift gears. After the repair, I asked the mechanic and learned that this is often caused by metal fatigue or corrosion, especially in older cars. Regular maintenance is essential—always check the clutch system for stiffness or unusual noises before driving, and schedule routine maintenance to prevent such accidents. Safe driving is the top priority; never risk driving to save time.
