The throttle body reset method for the Camry is as follows: 1. Turn on the ignition switch without starting the engine, wait for 10 seconds, then fully depress the accelerator pedal and hold it for more than 15 seconds without releasing. 2. After releasing the accelerator pedal, turn off the vehicle power and wait for 15-20 seconds, then turn on the ignition switch and start the engine. The throttle body reset is now complete. 3. If the idle speed becomes higher after the reset, disconnect the negative terminal of the for a few minutes to clear the control unit memory, then reconnect it. 4. The Camry throttle body reset requires removing the EFI fuse and the throttle body fuse.

After cleaning the throttle body myself last time, the idle speed kept fluctuating. I researched solutions for several days. The simplest method is the key reset procedure: First, disconnect the negative terminal for five minutes. Then turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine, wait until all dashboard lights illuminate and then turn off (about 2-3 minutes). Finally, turn off the key and restart the engine. I tried this method on my 2015 Camry, and the cold start RPM stabilized immediately. For vehicles with start-stop function, remember to disable it before disconnecting the negative terminal to avoid triggering fault codes.

Don't rush to the dealership if idle speed fluctuates after throttle body cleaning. The most direct method tested is the throttle pedal method: With the engine cold, turn on ignition without starting, fully depress accelerator for 20 seconds, release pedal, turn off power, wait 30 seconds, then start normally. Particularly effective for older Camry models, though post-2018 electronic throttle systems may require computer recalibration. The traditional disconnect method risks disabling power window auto functions, requiring reset.

There are two methods for throttle reset. For electronic throttles, using a diagnostic tool is the fastest, but you can also do it yourself by turning the key to the on position, pressing the accelerator pedal fully for 10 seconds, and then turning off the power. For mechanical cable types, disconnecting the negative terminal for 10 minutes also works. Important note: It's normal for the RPM to fluctuate wildly in the first few minutes after cleaning the throttle body—the ECU needs time to readjust. After resetting, driving on the highway for a while yields better results, as the ECU can learn the new air-fuel ratio data more quickly.

Self-reset requires three minutes of preparation: 1. Turn on the power but do not ignite. 2. Press the accelerator pedal all the way down and wait for 10 seconds. 3. Release the accelerator and remove the key for half a minute. This method is effective for Camry models from 2007 to 2017, and it works particularly well for idle vibration after cleaning the throttle body. However, do not disconnect the for hybrid versions, as it will trigger the protection mode. Previously, when helping a neighbor with his hybrid, it was faster to spend 50 bucks at a repair shop for OBD computer matching.

Don't panic if the RPM fluctuates to 1500 after cleaning the throttle. For older Camrys, simply disconnect the negative terminal for 15 minutes to reset the ECU. For newer models with start-stop systems: turn off AC and headlights before disconnecting, insert key (don't press brake) and long-press start button to enter maintenance mode. Post-2018 models feature electronic throttle control modules - if DIY reset fails, visit dealership for ECU reprogramming to avoid triggering engine protection mode.
