Subject 4 Theory Test, also known as Subject 4 or Driver Theory Test, is part of the motor vehicle driver's license assessment. Officially, there is no Subject 4: after the implementation of the "Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China Order No. 139", the Subject 3 test was divided into two parts. In addition to the road test, a safety and civilization knowledge test was added, commonly referred to as "Subject 4", which assesses "driving ethics". Since this test is conducted after Subject 3, it is commonly called Subject 4. The test paper consists of 50 questions, primarily in the form of case studies, images, animations, etc., with a full score of 100 and a passing score of 90.
The Subject 4 theory test is part of China's driver's license examination, primarily assessing knowledge of safe and civilized driving. After obtaining my license, I found this segment quite crucial because, unlike the previous subjects that involved practical driving, it evaluates your understanding of traffic rules through computer-based or written tests. The content covers aspects such as yielding to pedestrians, handling emergencies, and recognizing traffic signs, aiming to cultivate safety awareness. Failing this test means you cannot obtain a license to drive on the road, which deeply impressed upon me that driving is not just about technical skills but also concerns public safety. Looking back now, doing extra practice questions and familiarizing myself with real-life cases beforehand was very helpful and helped avoid many potential risks.
