Chery QQ's prototype is the Spark Lechi. Chery QQ and Lechi: The Chery QQ imitates the General Motors Spark Lechi, but due to the price difference between the two cars, the Lechi has never been able to surpass the QQ in sales. The low-end version of the Lechi is priced similarly to the high-end version of the QQ, and the quality of the QQ is good, not inferior to the Lechi. Introduction to Chery QQ Company: Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. was established in 1997 with an investment of 1.752 billion yuan from five state-owned investment companies in Anhui. Construction began on March 18, 1997, and the first Chery car rolled off the production line on December 18, 1999. On August 22, 2007, Chery's one-millionth car was produced, marking the achievement of the first phase goal of creating an independent brand through independent innovation. Chery is now moving towards the new goal of building an independent international brand through open innovation.
The prototype of the Chery QQ was actually developed based on the design concept of the Fiat 500. I remember around 2002, Chery directly borrowed the classic styling of Fiat, such as the rounded front end and compact dimensions, to address the gap in the urban microcar market, but made localized adjustments, such as optimizing the chassis to suit Chinese roads. The prototype performed excellently during internal testing and was quickly mass-produced as the QQ. Its low price and high practicality attracted a large number of young people. I personally witnessed the early models being very popular at auto shows, which helped the Chery brand rise rapidly to become a source of national pride. Looking back, it’s quite nostalgic.
