Discovery 5 is the fifth generation of Land Rover's Discovery series. Model Introduction: Compared to the fourth-generation Discovery, the most significant difference is the transition from a body-on-frame structure to a unibody construction typical of urban SUVs. The model available at our dealership is the entry-level Discovery 5 with a 3.0T engine, featuring an overall design that remains largely unchanged from the 2018 version. In contrast to the boxy shape of the Discovery 4, the Discovery 5 is noticeably more stylish and dynamic, making it the most practical model in the Land Rover lineup. Unlike the Range Rover, which strictly offers only two rows of seats, the Discovery 5 provides added convenience for families needing more seating. Advantages: Land Rover aims to position the Discovery as a purebred off-road vehicle. Even after its redesign, the Discovery 5 retains formidable off-road capabilities, an area where Land Rover has always excelled with its urban SUVs that also perform well off-road. The Discovery 5 is equipped with a 3.0T 340-horsepower V6 engine, delivering a maximum power of 250 kW and a peak torque of 450 N-m.
The Discovery 5 is the fifth-generation model in Land Rover's Discovery series, classified as a luxury SUV. I've been keeping an eye on this type of vehicle and find it quite versatile—its off-road capability is astonishingly strong, with Land Rover's Terrain Response system ensuring stable performance on muddy or snowy terrain. It offers petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrain options, featuring either a 2.0L or 3.0L turbocharged engine that delivers quick acceleration while remaining fuel-efficient. The interior exudes premium quality, with comfortable leather seats and a large sunroof, while tech features like adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking enhance safety. Price-wise, it starts at around 500,000 RMB in China, making it competitive against rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLE. If you enjoy adventure but also need a family-friendly vehicle, this would be an excellent choice.
From a family car perspective, the Discovery 5 left a deep impression on me. It's incredibly spacious with its seven-seat layout, making it super convenient for family outings. When the third row is folded down, the cargo space is enormous - easily accommodating strollers or luggage without any issues. Safety features are thoughtfully designed, including ISOFIX child seat anchors and a 360-degree camera system that eliminates blind spots when reversing. The driving experience is smooth and stable, with minimal noise on highways, making long journeys fatigue-free. However, urban fuel consumption is slightly higher at around 11-12L/100km. With a starting price over 400,000 RMB, it's somewhat expensive, but considering the space and durability, our whole family finds it worthwhile. It provides an exceptional sense of security in rain or snow, and occasionally handles rough roads during countryside trips with ease.
