What is the difference between DM-i and DM-p?

The differences between DM-i and DM-p are as follows: Different technologies: Although the names of BYD's DM-i and the previous DM technology are similar, DM-i is a completely redesigned plug-in hybrid system. The most fundamental difference is that the previous DM used parallel direct drive, where the engine and transmission could be used to drive the vehicle, and the engine as well as kinetic energy recovery could charge the battery to support the motor in driving the vehicle. Different approaches: DM-i models focus on economy rather than the previous performance-oriented approach. It adopts a hybrid series-parallel form, with both the engine and motor using single-speed transmission. Therefore, the BYD Tang DM-i only has a single-speed reducer without a traditional multi-gear transmission, making its biggest highlight the high fuel economy.
