My experience driving the manual CS35 is that there are techniques to get it under 13 seconds. When starting, rev up to around 2500 RPM and release the clutch gently to avoid wheel spin. Shift to second gear once you hit 20 km/h, then to third when you reach just over 40 km/h. At this point, it takes about 5 seconds to reach 60 km/h, after which you need to hold the throttle steady for gradual acceleration. Turning on the AC in summer noticeably slows acceleration by about half a second. After three years of driving it, I find it perfectly adequate for city use, but don’t expect much in terms of thrilling acceleration.

Compared to other vehicles in the same price range, the acceleration performance of the CS35 is quite solid. When driving it, I noticed that the engine is indeed a bit underwhelming at low RPMs, but once it reaches 3500 RPM, the characteristic power feeling of a small displacement engine kicks in. The automatic transmission shifts quite actively, keeping the RPM around 2000. Overtaking in the city is no problem if you step on the gas early, but on the highway, you need to leave enough distance when overtaking large vehicles. I think this acceleration performance is very reasonable for a family SUV—I don’t need overly aggressive acceleration when driving with my wife and kids.

I have actually tested the 0-100km/h acceleration of the CS35: the fastest time was 12.4 seconds when the engine was cold, and 13.1 seconds with the air conditioning on. The most important thing to note about this car is the starting technique - if you press the throttle too hard, it will trigger the protection system and limit power output. The engine is most powerful at 4000 rpm, but unfortunately the transmission will upshift at 5500 rpm. For daily driving, I prefer to press the accelerator slightly deeper to keep the rpm above 3000, which significantly improves power response.
