What is Hongqi?

Hongqi is a premium automotive brand directly operated by China's FAW Group, serving as the official state vehicle for Chinese national leaders and major state events. After the reform and opening-up, Hongqi has been striving towards marketization and commercialization, establishing the 'Hongqi Heart Service System'. Taking the Hongqi L5 as an example, its body dimensions are 5198mm in length, 2098mm in width, and 1890mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3060mm. In terms of power, the Hongqi L5 is equipped with a V12 6.0L engine independently developed by FAW, delivering a maximum power of 408 horsepower and a peak torque of 550 Nm. For suspension, the Hongqi L5 features a four-link independent front suspension and a multi-link independent rear suspension, along with bidirectional inflatable hydraulic shock absorbers. Exterior-wise, the waterfall-style front grille of the Hongqi L5 exudes grandeur, and the flagpoles on both sides of the front face are designed for mounting national or other flags.
Hongqi, now that's the elder statesman of Chinese automobiles! I remember seeing it only on TV when I was a kid, exclusively for state leaders, with little red flags mounted on the doors – absolutely majestic. Born in 1958, it's one of China's earliest luxury car brands. Those classic models like the CA770 were entirely handcrafted, even foreign dignitaries rode in Hongqi cars during state visits. Though ordinary folks can buy them now, that dignified aura remains unchanged – driving one really makes a statement on the street. To me, Hongqi isn't just a car brand; it's like living history of China's auto industry, representing the pride and perseverance of our national brand.
Speaking of Hongqi, the brand has undergone significant changes in recent years. It used to be perceived as exclusive transportation for officials, feeling quite distant from ordinary people. But now, models like the Hongqi H5 and H7 sedans are selling like hotcakes, priced at just around 100,000 to 200,000 yuan, yet packed with rich features. I personally saw the newly launched H9 at an auto show—its vertical waterfall-style grille paired with full-width taillights exudes a sense of luxury that rivals brands like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz. I’ve also heard they’ve introduced the all-electric E-HS9, which is over 5 meters long and seats seven, making it a great option for families. Hongqi has truly transformed from an aloof official car to a down-to-earth, premium domestic brand.
