It’s basically a echo chamber for your exhaust. It takes the loud, brash noise coming from the engine and sort of ‘tunes’ it on its way to the muffler. It gets rid of that annoying buzzing or humming sound, especially when you’re just cruising on the highway. If you take it off, your car will definitely be louder, but it might sound harsh and obnoxious instead of deep and powerful.
