All domestic versions come with a 1.6L naturally aspirated engine, divided into two models: the pre-2007 versions used the older TU5JP4 engine with 106 horsepower, while later models switched to the improved TU5AF version—power remained the same but torque increased slightly from 142 Nm to 143 Nm. It uses Bosch FR8SE0 spark plugs which are quite DIY-friendly. The engine mount design isn't ideal - when worn, it causes noticeable vibration throughout the vehicle, making the steering wheel shake like a massager at red lights.

Analyzing the powertrain of the C2, the domestically produced models all come standard with PSA's TU series engines. The early versions used the TU5JP4, featuring a single overhead camshaft 8-valve structure, paired with the BOSCH ME7.4.4 fuel injection system. After 2007, it was upgraded to the TU5AF, with the main change being the switch to a 16-valve double overhead camshaft design, maintaining 106 horsepower but improving fuel economy by 7%. This engine has a compression ratio of 10.8:1 and requires 95-octane gasoline. The water pump design is a common issue, and I've seen many owners start experiencing leaks around 70,000 kilometers. The timing system uses a Gates belt, and replacing it requires special tools to position the camshafts, making it quite challenging for DIY repairs.

I've been driving a used C2 for three years now. The engine is actually quite durable, but you need to know how to maintain it. The cast iron engine bay is compact—just replacing the spark plugs requires removing half of the intake pipe. The throttle body is prone to carbon buildup; if you don't clean it every 20,000 km, the idle will become unstable. Cleaning costs around 160 RMB. Loud cold starts in winter are a common issue, mainly due to the hydraulic lifter design. Here's a money-saving tip: Don't use overly thin engine oil—5W-40 is better suited for older cars than 30.
