The earliest batch of cars launched in 2004 was equipped with the TU5JP4 engine, a 1.6L displacement unit with a cast iron cylinder block and aluminum cylinder head, featuring a single overhead camshaft design and a maximum power output of 78 kW. This engine had slightly weak low-end torque but was quite powerful at high revs, especially exhilarating when revved above 4,000 rpm. The later 2007 model switched to the upgraded TU5AF engine.
