What Causes the Car's Air Conditioning Compressor to Vibrate?

Here are the reasons for the vibration when the air conditioning is turned on: 1. Excessive carbon buildup: If the engine's throttle has not been maintained for a long time, it can easily accumulate carbon deposits. These deposits obstruct the engine's intake system, leading to incomplete engine intake. As a result, the engine may struggle or barely manage to drive the compressor, causing idle vibration. 2. Damaged spark plugs: Check the condition of the spark plugs, high-voltage wires, and ignition coils. Spark plugs are car parts that are prone to wear and tear. Poor spark plug performance can cause the engine to vibrate during startup, affecting the engine's power output. Combined with the pressure from the compressor, this can lead to vibration when the air conditioning is on. If the spark plugs have excessive carbon buildup or are damaged, it is recommended to replace them directly.
Last time I drove with the AC on, the compressor was shaking badly. I took it to the repair shop and found out common causes include loose mounting screws or a slack belt. Worn internal bearings in the compressor can increase vibration, or insufficient refrigerant can cause unstable pressure. An aging belt slipping or being too tight also affects operation. Electrical issues like unstable voltage are also related, especially in older cars. You can check for belt cracks and screw tightness yourself, but if the shaking gets severe, don’t push it—seek professional repair promptly. Regularly cleaning the condenser during maintenance can reduce the load. Excessive shaking can affect other components like the motor’s lifespan.
