Several major car rental companies offer programs that allow you to skip the rental counter and go straight to your vehicle. The ability to bypass the counter is typically tied to their loyalty programs, which are free to join. Enrolling and providing your driver's license, payment, and insurance information online before your trip is the key to unlocking this convenience.

The most reliable options include Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, National, and Alamo. These companies use a technology often branded as "counter bypass." Once you're a member and your information is verified in their system, you'll receive instructions—often via a mobile app or a text message—directing you to your assigned car in the lot. You simply show your driver's license at the exit gate, and you're on your way.

The process varies slightly by company and location. For example, National Car Rental's Emerald Club is renowned for its "Choose Any Car" feature in the Executive aisle, offering a particularly seamless experience. Similarly, Alamo's Skip the Counter service is a major perk for its loyalty members.

It's important to manage expectations. This service is not always available at every single location, particularly smaller or franchise-operated branches. You should always check the specific rental location's details on the company's website or app to confirm that "Skip the Counter" or "Express Rental" is offered.

SixtSixt CardSixt Express Check-inPre-register details in loyalty profile

DollarDollar ExpressDollar ExpressComplete rental agreement online in advance

To ensure a smooth experience, complete your online check-in as early as possible (usually 24 hours in advance) and have your app ready when you arrive. The gate agent will still need to physically check your driver's license, but the entire rental agreement process is completed beforehand.

Yeah, definitely. I travel a lot for work, and I never go to the counter anymore. Sign up for Avis Preferred or Hertz Gold. It’s free. You put your info in the app once, and then you just get a text telling you what spot your car is in. You walk out, hop in, and show your license at the gate. Saves me at least 20 minutes every time. It’s a total game-changer.

The efficiency of counter bypass is impressive. The primary enabler is membership in a company's loyalty program. After your driver's license and payment method are validated in their system, you perform an online check-in. Upon arrival at a participating location, your vehicle assignment is communicated digitally. The only human interaction required is the brief license verification at the lot exit. This process is standardized across major brands like National, Enterprise, and Alamo when you book directly through their channels.

Honestly, I only use National because of their Emerald Club. I paid for the Executive status once through a credit card, and it was worth it. You not only skip the counter, but you also get to walk straight to the Executive aisle and just pick any car you like. No waiting in line, no upselling from agents. You just get in and drive to the gate. It feels like you own the place. Just make sure your profile is 100% complete online before you go.

When we travel as a family, skipping the rental counter is essential. With kids and luggage, the last thing we want is a long line. We always use Alamo because their "Skip the Counter" is so straightforward. We sign in online the day before, and at the airport, we go right to the kiosk to get our contract. Sometimes we can even go straight to the car if everything is set. It removes so much stress. The key is to be a loyal member and always book directly with the same company to build that profile.

Can fuel additive still be used after one year of expiration?

Fuel additive can be used normally if it has not expired for a long time. However, if the expiration period is too long, such as half a year or one year, even if used, it will not achieve the effect of cleaning carbon deposits. The internal additives' physical and chemical properties may degrade or become unstable, potentially causing damage to the vehicle. Therefore, it is not recommended to use it. The role of fuel additive: The main function of fuel additive is to increase the octane number of gasoline, making it burn more completely and reducing the formation of carbon deposits. This helps maintain the engine's power and fuel consumption, preventing a decrease in engine power and an increase in fuel consumption due to excessive carbon deposits. How to use fuel additive: Add the fuel additive to an empty fuel tank, then add gasoline. Typically, 60ml can be mixed with 30-60 liters of gasoline. If the fuel tank capacity is more than 60 liters, two bottles of fuel additive are needed, but do not overuse it.

What does 0 points on a driver's license mean?

Having 0 accumulated points on the Traffic Management 12123 platform indicates that the driver has not been penalized for any violations of road traffic safety laws. The cumulative scoring cycle for road traffic safety violations (i.e., the scoring cycle) is 12 months, with a maximum of 12 points. The clearance date for the driver's license points is the issuance date on the license, when the system automatically resets the points annually. The scoring cycle is calculated from the "initial license issuance date" on the driver's license, with one year constituting a cycle, and this process repeats continuously. If the points deducted within a year are relatively few, by the next cycle, they will automatically reset to zero, starting again from 12 points. Article 68 of the "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driver's Licenses" states that if a motor vehicle driver accumulates 12 points within a scoring cycle, the traffic management department of the public security organ shall detain their motor vehicle driver's license. If a driver's license (holder) does not accumulate 12 points within a scoring cycle and all fines have been paid, the points will be cleared. If the points have not reached 12 but there are unpaid fines, the points will carry over to the next scoring cycle.
