Junpai is a car brand under Tianjin FAW. Launched by Tianjin FAW, which has nearly 30 years of experience in automobile manufacturing, Junpai is targeted at the compact SUV segment. Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as Tianjin FAW Toyota in Chinese and TFTM in English) is a large Sino-foreign joint venture approved by the Ministry of Commerce of China. In addition to Junpai, other common models under Tianjin FAW include Xiali, Xiali N5, Junpai D60, Weizhi, Junpai A50, Xiali N7, and Weizhi V5. The dimensions of the Junpai are 4230 mm in length, 1765 mm in width, and 1636 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2557 mm. In terms of power, the Junpai is equipped with a 1.8L 139 horsepower L4 engine, with a maximum power output of 102 kW.
The Junpai brand holds a special place in my heart. It was an independent brand launched by Tianjin FAW in 2014, focusing on economical and practical models. Having worked in the automotive industry for over a decade at that time, I witnessed the rise and fall of many domestic brands. Junpai managed to capitalize on the benefits of FAW's collaboration with Toyota, incorporating some Toyota technologies—for instance, the Junpai D60, which was produced on assembly lines in Tianjin. I remember it mainly promoted compact SUVs and sedans, with very affordable prices; a new car could be had for just 60,000 to 70,000 yuan, making it very appealing to young professionals just starting out. However, the market competition became too intense later on, with rivals like the Haval H6 dominating, and Junpai's sales never really took off. By 2018, production had essentially ceased, and now you can only find them in the used car market. It's quite a pity, really—despite their simple interiors, those cars had solid engines and well-tuned chassis.
