What Are the Requirements for Opening an Auto Repair Business?

Auto repair business opening requirements are divided into two parts. Part 1 applies to complete vehicle maintenance enterprises, while Part 2 applies to comprehensive minor repair businesses and specialized auto repair service providers. Below are the specific details: 1. Complete Vehicle Maintenance Enterprises: These enterprises must have the capability to perform various levels of maintenance, repairs, and replacements on complete vehicles, assemblies, and major components of the vehicles they service. They must ensure that the technical condition and operational performance of the vehicles are fully (or nearly fully) restored to the original vehicle's technical requirements, complying with relevant national and industry standards. Based on scale, they are classified into Class I and Class II complete vehicle maintenance enterprises. 2. Comprehensive Minor Repair and Specialized Auto Repair Service Providers (Class III): These businesses specialize in specific repair services such as engine repair, body repair, electrical system repair, automatic transmission repair, tire balancing and patching, four-wheel alignment inspection and adjustment, vehicle lubrication and maintenance, fuel injection pump and injector repair, crankshaft grinding, cylinder boring and grinding, radiator repair, air conditioning repair, vehicle beautification and decoration, and vehicle glass installation and repair.
When I first planned to open my own repair shop, I inquired everywhere about the opening requirements, only to find it was much more complicated than I imagined. The premises need to be spacious enough to accommodate at least five or six cars for maintenance simultaneously, and basic equipment like lifts and wheel alignment machines must be installed. Technicians are required to have automotive repair qualification certificates, and my small shop needs at least two certified masters on site. The fire department mandates that you must have a fire extinguishing system, and oil-water separation equipment must also be installed—environmental inspections are particularly strict now. Oh, and when registering with the industry and commerce bureau, you need to provide property ownership certificates or lease contracts, along with paying a deposit. The initial equipment investment alone can cost several hundred thousand yuan, not to mention the monthly expenses for rent, water, and electricity.
