Should I shift to P or N gear when idling for a long time without turning off the engine?

When idling for a long time without turning off the engine, you can shift to either P gear or N gear, as long as you ensure the handbrake is tightly engaged. If you're waiting at a red light or stuck in traffic without turning off the engine, it is recommended to shift into N gear. Both N gear and P gear can be used when parking, but there are differences between these two gears. N gear does not have a locking mechanism, whereas P gear does. When shifted into P gear, the locking mechanism can lock the transmission gears, which indirectly locks the wheels. In this case, even without engaging the handbrake, the car will not roll. When shifted into N gear, there is no locking mechanism to secure the transmission gears. If the handbrake is not engaged at this time, the car may roll.
