Should a 1.5T engine use 92 or 95 gasoline?

There is no definitive answer to this question. It is recommended to check the vehicle's manual for fueling instructions. Below are some precautions regarding car refueling: 1. Use the gasoline grade indicated on the fuel tank cap: When refueling your car, follow the gasoline grade required by the manufacturer's manual or as indicated on the fuel tank cap. A higher gasoline grade only indicates better anti-knock performance, not necessarily better engine power output. The best gasoline grade is the one that matches your car's engine compression ratio. 2. Refuel when the fuel light comes on: Many people believe that the fuel pump is submerged in the fuel tank, and if the fuel light comes on, it means the fuel level is below the pump. They think that if the pump is not effectively cooled, its lifespan will be reduced or it may even get damaged. In fact, this is incorrect. The fuel pump is not cooled by the fuel submerged in the tank but by the fuel drawn into the pump. As long as fuel can still be drawn in, the cooling process continues. 3. Avoid using mobile phones while refueling: Gas stations have clear regulations prohibiting the use of mobile phones during refueling. Mobile phones emit electromagnetic radiation, and when metal encounters charged particles, it can generate sparks, ignite gasoline, and even cause explosions. Although the probability of an explosion is very low, the danger still exists.
I think it mainly depends on the manufacturer's manual recommendations. I've driven several 1.5T models and found that most explicitly state support for 92-octane gasoline. Although 92-octane fuel has a lower octane rating, it's completely sufficient. The turbocharged engine's ignition system can automatically adjust the ignition timing to prevent knocking, unless you're doing intense track driving. However, 92-octane fuel might cause slightly more carbon deposits. The price is about 0.7-0.8 yuan cheaper per liter than 95-octane, saving around 400-500 yuan annually for 10,000 kilometers driven. My family's 1.5T has been running on 92-octane for three years with stable fuel consumption at around 7L/100km, and there's no noticeable difference in power compared to 95-octane.
