Is there no specific time for Subject 1 of the driving test?

Subject 1 does not have a specific time, but the exam duration is limited to 45 minutes. According to the "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driver's Licenses," candidates can take the Subject 1 exam twice on the same day. If the first attempt is unsuccessful, a free second attempt is allowed. If the second attempt also fails, the Subject 1 exam is terminated, and the candidate must wait ten days before rescheduling. Subject 1, also known as the theoretical driving test or driver's theory exam, is part of the motor vehicle driver's license assessment. The exam covers driving theory basics, road safety laws and regulations, local regulations, and related knowledge. The test is conducted on a computer. The Subject 1 exam consists of 100 questions, divided into single-choice and true/false questions, each worth 1 point, totaling 100 points. If a candidate answers 11 questions incorrectly during the exam, the system will automatically submit the test and end the session. Subject 1 exam content includes: driver's license and motor vehicle management regulations; road traffic conditions and rules; road traffic safety violations and penalties; road traffic accident handling regulations; basic knowledge of motor vehicles; local regulations; knowledge of braking systems and safety devices for large and medium-sized passenger and freight vehicles; specialized knowledge for wheeled self-propelled machinery, trams, and trolleybuses. Subject 1 exam precautions: Candidates should dress appropriately (no slippers), avoid bringing electronic devices or bags into the exam hall, carry their ID card, and queue to enter the waiting area. Observe the instructions and procedures on the large screen, and store personal belongings in lockers before entering the exam hall. Upon entering, candidates will be assigned a seat at the identity verification station. Once seated, the exam begins. Ensure the camera is aligned correctly and follow exam discipline. If the first attempt fails, a same-day retake is allowed. If the retake also fails, the candidate must pay to reschedule. After the exam, queue to collect the score report and sign it. Unsigned reports are invalid. There is no limit to the number of times Subject 1 can be scheduled. Each subject can be taken once, with one retake allowed if the first attempt fails. If the retake also fails, the exam is terminated, and the candidate must reschedule. In contrast, Subject 2 and Subject 3 allow only five exam attempts each. Scheduling for Subject 2 and Subject 3 must be done ten days later. If the Subject 3 safety and civilized driving knowledge test is failed, the previously passed road driving skills test results remain valid. The driving test consists of three subjects: Subject 1, Subject 2, and Subject 3. Subject 1 refers to the road traffic safety laws, regulations, and related knowledge exam. Subject 2 refers to the field driving skills test. Subject 3 is divided into two parts: road driving skills and safety and civilized driving knowledge tests. The safety and civilized driving knowledge test is conducted after Subject 3, so it is commonly referred to as Subject 4. However, the official terminology (i.e., the Ministry of Public Security's Order No. 123) does not include the term "Subject 4."
The time for the subject one test is not available every day and requires advance booking. I've seen many students asking about this, and indeed the schedule is not fixed to a specific time, like certain hours on Monday. Generally, after enrolling in the driving school, you can choose available slots in the online booking system or the DMV app, such as weekends or morning/evening sessions on weekdays. When there are many people, slots get filled quickly, so I recommend booking early to avoid delays. Don't forget to practice with question apps and review traffic rules during your preparation, so you can confidently enter the exam hall once the time is set.
