Seat ventilation is not necessary to install. Most common vehicles do not come with seat ventilation functionality, which has certain requirements for the seat material—only perforated genuine leather seats can support this feature. Seat ventilation essentially involves installing an air outlet (or inlet) inside the seat, but its usefulness is limited. Seat ventilation does not provide cooling or heating effects; it merely accelerates air circulation. If you turn on seat ventilation alone, you won’t feel any noticeable coolness. The best results are achieved when it is used in conjunction with the air conditioning system. There are two types of seat ventilation: one is blow-type, and the other is suction-type. Additionally, seat ventilation is relatively expensive to implement. In contrast, most vehicles today opt for seat heating, while seat ventilation is rarely used. The principle and construction of seat ventilation are far more complex than those of seat heating. To accommodate ventilation, the entire structure of the seat must be altered, leading to higher costs that are ultimately passed on to consumers. Therefore, seat ventilation is not particularly necessary.

I live on Hainan Island, where summers are hot and humid. Driving with my back sticking to the seat is so uncomfortable. Seat ventilation is practically a must! After installation, the seat blows cool air, instantly making you feel refreshed—like carrying a mini air conditioner with you. The cost is around 2,000-3,000 yuan, which isn’t cheap, but compared to the agony of long summer drives, it’s worth it. The installation process isn’t complicated; a reputable shop can get it done in a few hours. Maintenance is simple too—just clean the vents regularly. Northerners might think it’s unnecessary, but with the heat down south, you’ll regret not getting it. Now, driving is much more enjoyable, and my family says it’s way more comfortable, especially when waiting at red lights—no more risk of overheating.

As a daily commuter, I don't think seat ventilation is a must-have. Turning on the AC in summer solves most issues, and adjusting the vents to blow directly at your body is sufficient enough. The installation cost of several thousand yuan is quite a burden for ordinary workers—it's better to save that money for other necessities or interior upgrades. Since I mostly drive in the city, short trips can be managed with seat cushions or simply rolling down the windows for ventilation. On extremely hot days, remotely starting the AC via a mobile app beforehand works just fine—no need to go through the hassle of installing seat ventilation. Long trips might be a bit uncomfortable, but it's tolerable, and spending the money on more meaningful maintenance is a wiser choice.

Last time I went on a long-distance trip, my back was soaked after sitting all day, and I felt extremely uncomfortable. Later, I installed seat ventilation, and the difference was remarkable. The moment it's turned on, cool air blows instantly, keeping my back and buttocks much drier while driving, no more sticky feeling. It cost just over 1500 yuan and took about an hour to install. Now, I automatically turn on this feature every time I drive, and the comfort improvement is huge. Especially during traffic jams or on highways, I no longer need to wipe sweat frequently. For someone like me who loves road trips, it's definitely a plus. If your budget allows, I highly recommend trying it—it's more targeted than direct air conditioning.
