Is it a problem if the taillight cover is broken and it rains?

If the taillight cover is damaged, it may let water in during heavy rain. If it has been broken due to impact, it should be replaced as soon as possible to avoid damage to the bulbs. From a safety perspective, a broken taillight cover should be replaced because driving at night with a cover that doesn't reflect light properly can be dangerous. If not replaced, moisture entering the cover can reduce the lifespan of the bulbs and cause oxidation of the circuits. Car taillights serve two main functions: Red light: Acts as a position light, allowing others to judge the width of the car from a distance at night. The taillight turns on whenever the position lights or headlights are activated. The taillight also functions as a brake light, illuminating when the brake is pressed to alert following vehicles and prevent rear-end collisions. When the position light (which is the same red taillight) is already on, braking causes the taillight to brighten significantly, serving as an additional warning. (This bulb has dual filaments and two electrical circuits.) Yellow light: Functions as a turn signal. Before turning, changing lanes, or starting, the relevant turn signal should be activated to alert other drivers, causing the left or right yellow light to flash (some cars also have these at the front, on the sides, or on the mirrors). It also serves as an emergency light. In emergency situations, such as towing, being towed, or breaking down on the road, the emergency light switch should be turned on, causing both yellow lights to flash simultaneously—hence the term "hazard lights." Additionally, some cars have rear fog lights, which are designed to be yellow because yellow light has better penetration in foggy conditions.
