Passat cruise control usage is as follows: 1. Speed setting, first slide the button on the cruise control lever to the left to the ON position, then accelerate or control the speed to maintain the desired speed, press the SET button at the top of the lever, at this time release the accelerator pedal, the car will automatically move forward. 2. Safety awareness during cruise control, release the accelerator and place your left foot on the floor, the driver should ensure that they can accurately step on the brake at any time, once there is a potential danger, the foot should be moved to the brake pedal. 3. In case of danger, step on the brake pedal to slow down in time, at this time the cruise control will be automatically deactivated, and the speed will decrease without stepping on the accelerator. Sometimes in dangerous situations, the cruise control can also be deactivated directly by turning off the ON slide button. If you accelerate to avoid danger, the cruise control speed will automatically resume when you stop accelerating. If the acceleration exceeds the original speed by 10KM for more than 5 minutes, the cruise control will also be deactivated.

The cruise control operation of the Passat is quite simple, and I often use it on the highway. First, start the car and drive until the speed stabilizes above 40 km/h, then locate the cruise control button on the left side of the steering wheel and press the switch with the dashboard icon to activate the system. Next, accelerate to your desired speed, such as 100 km/h, and press the SET button—at this point, you can take your foot off the accelerator, and the car will automatically maintain this speed. To fine-tune the speed, press the +/- buttons, which adjust the speed by 1 km/h per press. If you need to temporarily cancel the cruise control, such as for overtaking, lightly tap the brake or press the CANCEL button. You can later press RES to immediately resume the previously set speed. Remember not to use cruise control in rainy, snowy, or complex road conditions—safety comes first.

Before using the cruise control on the Passat, always check the road conditions. I prefer using it on straight highway sections. Locate the button with the speedometer icon in the left steering wheel area and press to illuminate it. A white cruise indicator on the dashboard means the system is ready. Once you reach the desired speed, press the SET button—the indicator turns green to confirm activation. At this point, the throttle pedal locks automatically, and speed adjustments are controlled solely via the +/- buttons. A handy tip: holding the +/- buttons allows continuous acceleration or deceleration. Pressing the brake or CANCEL instantly deactivates cruise control, but hitting RES seamlessly resumes the preset speed. Note that downhill sections may cause the car to exceed the set speed, requiring manual intervention. Never use this feature in urban areas—it’s simply too slow to react.

I've been using the Passat's cruise control for over three years, and it's very user-friendly. First, the system can only be activated when the speed exceeds 40 km/h by pressing the CRUISE button on the left side of the steering wheel. Accelerate to the desired speed and press the SET button to lock it in, for example, at 80 km/h, after which you can release the throttle. The safest way to temporarily cancel is by braking, as the RES resume button avoids repetitive operations. Three safety tips: do not use it without hands on the steering wheel, be cautious when visibility is low at night, and the dashboard will flash a yellow warning light in case of system failure. Additionally, if you press the brake twice consecutively, the cruise function will completely shut down and require reactivation.

Using cruise control on highways during long trips is particularly effortless. Specific operation: Press the cruise switch button on the left side of the steering wheel, wait until the cruise indicator light on the dashboard illuminates. After accelerating to the desired speed, press SET to lock the current speed. When adjusting speed, each press of the +/- button changes the speed by 1.6 km/h. I've tried holding it for three seconds for continuous acceleration. Braking or pressing the CANCEL button will pause the cruise, and pressing RES resumes it. Actual tests show that on downhill sections, the speed may exceed by 2-5 km/h, requiring manual intervention. It's recommended to check the button sensitivity monthly, as oxidized contacts can affect response speed. Remember not to on cruise control in rainy conditions when the road is slippery, as braking distance increases.

The Passat's cruise control is also beginner-friendly. When I first used it, my friend taught me. First, ensure the speed exceeds 40 km/h and turn on the main cruise switch on the left side of the steering wheel. Accelerate to the desired speed, press the SET button to activate, and immediately release the throttle. The + button increases speed, and the - button decreases it, both with gradual adjustments. Note that pressing the brake automatically cancels cruise control, but the resume button saves you the trouble of resetting. A little-known fact is that holding the SET button for 5 seconds activates speed limit mode, indicated by a LIM symbol on the dashboard. In this mode, fuel supply cuts off when exceeding the set speed, but downhill slopes might still cause overspeeding, so staying alert to road conditions is always practical.
