How to Use a Serpentine Gear Shift?

The operation method of serpentine gear shift is as follows: 1. P (Parking Gear): Used for parking, it employs a mechanical device to lock the rotating parts of the car, preventing movement. When the engine is running, as long as the gear lever is in the driving position, an automatic transmission car can move easily. 2. R (Reverse Gear): Used for reversing. Unlike manual transmission cars, automatic transmission cars cannot use semi-clutch, so special attention should be paid to the control of the accelerator pedal when reversing. Usually, the safety button on the lever must be pressed to move the lever to the "R" gear. 3. N (Neutral Gear): Used during startup, towing, or temporary stops (e.g., at a red light). To prevent the car from rolling on a slope, the brake must be pressed when in neutral. When the lever is in the "N" gear, the power between the engine and the transmission is cut off. For short stops, the lever can be placed in this gear while pulling the handbrake lever, allowing the right foot to rest off the brake pedal. 4. D (Drive Gear): In this gear, the transmission automatically shifts between 1 and overdrive gears (equivalent to 1-4 gears) based on speed and throttle conditions. This gear is used for normal road driving. Due to different designs in various countries, the "D" gear generally includes gears from 1 to high or 2 to high, and it automatically shifts according to changes in speed and load.
