How to update ETC after vehicle transfer?

If you need to change the license plate for ETC, you must bring the license plate change procedures, along with your ID card and vehicle license, to the original bank handling point or any ETC handling point established by the expressway to process the change. The ETC installation process is as follows: After receiving the device, first check whether the ETC card and electronic tag (OBU) are damaged. Press the anti-removal button on the back of the OBU. The red light will briefly turn on, and the OLED screen will display "Label Invalid" or "Insert Card," indicating the device is functioning normally. Clean the front windshield to ensure the glass surface is smooth, clean, and dry. Then peel off the protective film on the back of the OBU adhesive and stick it to the installation position. Press firmly with your hand for 2-3 minutes to remove any air bubbles. Insert the ETC card with the front facing the driver and the back facing the windshield, ensuring the chip is inserted into the OBU device.
Updating your ETC after transferring your vehicle registration is actually quite simple. The first step is to remove the old device. I remember when I transferred my car from Suzhou to Nanjing, I made sure to find time to visit the bank's ETC service point for consultation. They asked me to bring my ID card, the new vehicle license, and the registration certificate, and to have all these documents ready. The bank staff helped me cancel the old account and also showed me how to link my card to the new device. During the process, it's important to ensure the new license plate number is entered accurately; otherwise, the toll system might encounter errors when you pass through highways. When installing the new ETC, they tested the signal to make sure everything was working properly. The whole process didn’t take much time—about half an hour. I recommend making an appointment in advance to avoid waiting in line. Don’t forget to transfer the balance from the old device to the new card, or it will go to waste.
