How to Turn on the Windshield Wipers in a Volkswagen?

There is a lever on the right side behind the steering wheel. Push it down once for the slow wiping mode (first gear), and push it down again for the fast wiping mode (second gear). Pull the lever toward the steering wheel to spray windshield washer fluid. Push it up once for a single wipe. Avoid dry wiping the windshield.
With over a decade of driving experience, operating the wipers on my Volkswagen is quite straightforward. The control stalk on the right side of the steering wheel is key—gently pushing it down once activates the intermittent wipe; a second push switches to low-speed wiping, and a third push engages high-speed mode. I frequently use it during rainy drives to maintain clear visibility. Pulling the lever upwards sprays washer fluid, which is very handy for dealing with dust and grime. Wiper blades tend to wear out easily, so it's important to inspect and replace them every six months. Otherwise, they won’t clear the windshield properly during heavy rain, posing a safety risk. Some Volkswagen models also feature a rear wiper, controlled by a button on the side of the stalk. After years of driving, I recommend that beginners practice familiarizing themselves with the different wiper settings to avoid panic during heavy downpours. Developing a habit of regular maintenance can significantly enhance safety.
