Use a screwdriver to remove the black protective strips around the windshield. Use a steel wire to pull apart the sealant around the entire windshield. Use a small knife blade to scrape off any remaining black sealant from the car. Apply polyurethane sealant to the windshield frame. Install the windshield.

A couple of days ago, a pebble hit my windshield while I was driving, luckily it only caused a small crack. The technician said such cracks can be repaired as long as they don’t exceed the size of a coin. They first use a special drill bit to make small holes at both ends of the crack to prevent it from spreading, then inject a special resin with a syringe, and finally cure it with a UV lamp. The whole process took just over ten minutes and only cost 200 yuan without even involving insurance. The technician reminded me that high temperatures in summer or hot showers in winter can cause the glass to expand and contract, so small cracks should be fixed early. If the crack spreads across the entire windshield, it would need to be replaced, which could cost two to three thousand yuan.

Last winter, a 10-centimeter crack appeared on my car's windshield. The mechanic at the repair shop taught me a quick emergency fix: immediately apply transparent tape in a cross pattern on both sides of the crack to prevent dust and rainwater from seeping in. For a proper repair, you need to visit a professional shop. They use a resin injection technique, which works by using a vacuum pump to draw adhesive into the glass interlayer. After repair, the crack is barely visible, and the strength can be restored to about 80%. However, keep in mind that star-shaped cracks or cracks at the edges cannot be repaired. Also, avoid washing the car for 24 hours after the repair, and in cold weather, it's best to let it sit in the sun to help with curing.

Don't panic over a cracked windshield—small cracks can actually be repaired. Last time my car glass got a crack from a tree branch, I directly bought a windshield repair kit online. The process was super simple: first clean the crack area, attach the injection base, then use the syringe to press resin glue into it. After the glue fully penetrates the crack, remove the sticker and let it cure under sunlight for half an hour. The whole fix only cost thirty bucks. However, if the crack exceeds fifteen centimeters, DIY isn't recommended—shaky hands during glue injection may leave air bubbles, so it's safer to let a professional handle it.
