To open the hood of a CR-V: The switch is located on the lower left side of the steering wheel, near the clutch or the left footrest area on the door's side panel. The upward-facing switch corresponds to the fuel tank cap, while the side switch is for the engine hood. Simply pull this switch to open. The CR-V is a compact SUV with dimensions of 4621mm in length, 1855mm in width, and 1679mm in height, featuring a 2661mm wheelbase and a 53L fuel tank capacity. For suspension, this model employs a MacPherson strut independent suspension at the front and a multi-link independent suspension at the rear.

When I first started driving, I had to look up how to open the hood for a long time. Opening the CRV's hood is actually quite simple. First, find the lever under the lower left corner of the driver's seat—the one with the hood symbol—and give it a firm pull to hear a click. Don’t rush to get out of the car yet; first, make sure the engine is off and the handbrake is engaged. to the front of the car, where the hood will have popped open slightly. Slide your hand into the gap and feel for a sliding latch in the middle. Push it all the way to the left while using your other hand to lift the hood. Once it’s up, remember to secure it with the metal support rod—otherwise, the hood could suddenly slam shut, which would be dangerous. The first time I did this, I wasn’t careful and nearly burned my hand on the hot engine, so it’s best to wait until the engine has cooled down before attempting this.

My CRV has been running for five years, and I have to pop the hood once or twice every week. When sitting in the driver's seat, there's a small lever near the left foot area. You need to pull it with a bit of force. Once you hear the hood pop open with a 'click' sound, get out of the car and to the front. Inside the gap in the middle of the hood, there's a latch release lever. Pinch it with two fingers and push it to the left, then lift the entire hood. Remember not to lift it too abruptly—this hood is quite heavy. Make sure the support rod clicks securely into its slot. Sometimes, when starting the car cold in winter to add windshield washer fluid, you should wait until the engine RPM stabilizes before opening the hood.

Last time I got my car serviced, I specifically asked the technician about the trick to open the hood. First, sit in the driver's seat and pull the lever with the car symbol near your left leg. Wait for the hood to pop open slightly, then get out of the car. Reach into the gap right above the emblem to feel a small handle. Slide it all the way to the left, then use your right hand to lift the middle part of the hood slowly. The key is to support the area near the bottom strut of the hood to save effort. You'll hear a click when the strut locks into the hood slot, ensuring it's secure. When closing the hood, don't release it from too high—just let it drop naturally from about 30 centimeters.

The CRV's hood design is quite user-friendly. The interior release handle is connected to a cable, allowing the primary latch to disengage with a single pull. The secondary hidden latch at the front requires manual operation, providing dual protection against accidental opening. This latch is located behind the radiator grille, precisely two finger-widths above and to the right of the emblem. To release it, press with your fingertip and push leftward—if stuck, the rubber cushion may have deteriorated. The support rod base features anti-slip rubber tips that must align with the hood's inner slots. Beginners should activate the engine compartment indicator light before opening to verify items like the oil cap aren't left unsecured, as shown on the dashboard.

I find that the biggest concern when opening the hood is damaging the car paint. First, make sure the car is parked on level ground and has been turned off for at least five minutes—opening the hood while it's hot is dangerous. Avoid wearing rings or watches during the operation, as metal can easily scratch the paint. Start by pulling the release lever near the driver's footwell until you hear a 'pop' sound, then exit the car. When locating the latch at the front center of the hood, use a handkerchief to cushion your fingers to prevent nail scratches. While lifting the hood, hold the inner support bracket and avoid touching the painted edges. Insert the support rod firmly into the deepest part of its slot and ensure it's secure before letting go. Regularly applying lubricant to the hinges can prevent squeaking.
