How to Connect a Phone to Bluetooth in a 2012 Passat?

First, ensure that the vehicle's Bluetooth is turned on and set your phone's Bluetooth to visible mode. When connecting a new device, you need to click 'Search for Devices' at the bottom of the phone's Bluetooth interface to discover the car's Bluetooth, then click on the car's Bluetooth to prepare for connection. Next, enter the pairing password into your phone. The next time you get in the car, simply turn on your phone's Bluetooth to automatically connect.
I drive this old Passat myself, and connecting Bluetooth requires some patience. First, press the 'Setup' button on the center console, then select 'Bluetooth Settings' in the 'Phone' menu. Make sure the car is parked in P gear (it won't allow operation while driving). Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and search for devices. When you see 'VW PHONE', tap to pair. The car system will pop up a 4-digit code, just enter it on your phone. Once connected, it only supports calls. To play music via Bluetooth, you need to manually switch to Bluetooth audio mode in the 'Media Source' menu. The most annoying part is it frequently disconnects—I basically have to reconnect every time I start the car. This generation of VW's system really isn't very reliable.
