How to Clean a KN Air Filter?

Cleaning a KN air filter involves the following steps: 1. Gently tap the intake side of the KN air filter to remove loose large particles, then use a brush for further cleaning; 2. Evenly spray the KN-specific cleaner on the air filter element. For optimal cleaning results, it is recommended to leave it on for more than 10 minutes; 3. Rinse with low-pressure tap water, ensuring the water flows in the opposite direction of the intake, i.e., from the clean side to the dirty side, to prevent dirt from embedding into the KN filter element; 4. After rinsing, shake off excess water and allow the KN filter element to air dry naturally; 5. After air drying for half an hour, apply the KN-specific care oil to the front side only, not the back; 6. Ensure the care oil is evenly applied. After application, wait for 20 minutes to complete the cleaning process.
I just cleaned my KN air filter and found it quite simple and practical. After removing the filter, I sprayed it with the dedicated cleaner and waited a few minutes for it to dissolve the dust and dirt. Then, I gently rinsed it under a faucet with cold water—avoiding high-pressure washers or hot water to prevent damaging the fiber structure of the filter. After rinsing, I let it air-dry naturally, making sure not to use a hairdryer or expose it to direct sunlight. It needs to be completely dry before the next step. Once fully dried, I evenly applied the KN-specific oil, being careful not to use too much to avoid clogging. During reinstallation, I ensured a proper seal to prevent air leaks. The whole process saves money on frequent replacements, and generally, cleaning every 10,000 kilometers is sufficient. KN air filters are designed for repeated cleaning, extending engine life while being eco-friendly—I always recommend friends to try it. DIY maintenance keeps my car healthier, and the throttle response feels smoother. The cleaning kit isn’t expensive to buy online, and it’s a one-time investment that lasts for years.
