How often should the engine oil be changed if the car is not driven frequently?

If the car is not driven frequently, the engine oil should be changed every 6 to 8 months. Prolonged storage of oil in the engine oil pan can lead to oxidation and deterioration. Its functions are: 1. To separate the surfaces of relatively sliding components, thereby reducing wear; 2. To carry heat back to the oil tank and dissipate it into the air, assisting the radiator in cooling the engine; 3. To circulate carbon deposits, sludge, and worn metal particles from engine components back to the oil tank, flushing away contaminants generated on the working surfaces of parts through the flow of lubricating oil. The consequences of using inferior quality oil include: the accumulation of gum and incompletely burned substances on valves, intake passages, and combustion chambers, which can impair engine performance and cause engine damage.
