To date, has established five major automotive industry branch factories in Xi'an, Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Changsha. Below is an introduction to BYD's automotive factories: 1. Xi'an Factory: BYD's Xi'an facility consists of two plants located at No. 2 Yadi Road, New Industrial Park, High-tech Zone, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province and No.1 Qinling Avenue, Caotang Science & Technology Industrial Base, High-tech Zone, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. Although not the company headquarters, this is BYD's earliest factory, which began production in 2005. After years of expansion, it now boasts a total production capacity of 700,000 vehicles. 2. Changsha Factory: Located at No. 88 East Environmental Protection Road, Yuhua District, Changsha City, Hunan Province, this facility was established in 2009 when BYD acquired Hunan Midea Automobile Co., Ltd. Initially with an annual capacity of only 100,000 vehicles, the factory underwent expansion in 2018 and achieved full production this year, reaching a capacity of 300,000 units.

During my visit to the headquarters in Shenzhen, the engineer in charge of reception mentioned that has established at least 10 large-scale production bases across the country. Among the ones I'm familiar with, there's the Xi'an factory—where over a million of BYD's main vehicle models have been produced; the Changsha factory specializes in new energy buses; and the newly built super factory in Zhengzhou is said to be as large as four football fields. These factories serve various economic regions nationwide—for example, the Changzhou factory supplies the Yangtze River Delta, while the Fuzhou factory covers six central provinces. I heard that new factories are soon to be built in Xiangyang and the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone, bringing the total number of production bases to over 15. Each factory is like a small city, complete with employee residential areas and commercial streets.

Last time I was on a business trip to Xi'an, the taxi driver proudly mentioned that their city is home to BYD's largest vehicle assembly plant, with a single factory site covering over 4,000 acres. Chatting with local suppliers, I learned that has established production bases in Shenzhen, Changsha, Hefei, Changzhou, Fuzhou, Jinan, and Zhengzhou, and continues to expand. From what I know, in 2023 alone, they started constructing a smart factory in Xiangyang, and groundwork was laid for a new base in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone. These plants have driven the entire industrial chain; for example, around the Jinan factory, there are hundreds of battery supporting enterprises gathered.

When my family bought the Han, the sales manager mentioned that the car was shipped from the Changsha factory. During the conversation, we learned that BYD's R&D headquarters is located in Pingshan, Shenzhen, while vehicle production is distributed across nine provinces and cities. The Zhengzhou factory mainly produces popular models like the Dolphin, the Changzhou factory manufactures the Yuan PLUS, and the Fuzhou factory handles export models. The salesperson mentioned that according to the latest statistics, there are already thirteen production bases, with plans to soon establish a battery raw material base in Yichun. The short delivery time is due to the nationwide factory layout, which makes logistics very convenient.

A friend working in the automotive industry told me that BYD's factory network operates like a set of precision gears. The Shenzhen headquarters focuses on high-end models, the Xi'an base accounts for 30% of national production capacity, and the Changsha factory specializes in ride-hailing vehicle series. Coastal factories in Changzhou and Xiamen cater to export markets, while the inland Zhengzhou base covers the Central Plains market. Not to mention the newly built manufacturing plants in Fuzhou, Hefei, and Jinan. My friend counted twelve production bases on his fingers, saying that after the fifth-phase expansion in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Cooperation Zone is completed this year, the total number will exceed fifteen.

Last month during a visit to the Hefei factory, the tour guide explained that adopts a honeycomb layout: Shenzhen headquarters serves as the heart, the Xi'an plant functions like a right arm with an annual production capacity of one million vehicles, and the Changsha factory is the stronghold for new energy buses. The Zhengzhou plant boasts high levels of automation, while the Jinan facility specializes in hybrid models. She also listed over ten base locations including Changzhou, Fuzhou, Xiangyang, and the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone. What surprised me most was the synergy between factories—for instance, batteries produced in Xi'an are transported to Zhengzhou for assembly, with an average of one large production base every 200 kilometers ensuring an unbroken supply chain.
