Unless you're a very experienced shadetree mechanic with the right tools, my advice is to take it to a pro. This isn't a brake job. If your timing belt goes, it can literally destroy your engine on the spot if it's an interference engine. The cost of a tow and a professional repair is way cheaper than a new engine. I learned that the hard way on an old Civic. Save yourself the headache and potential financial disaster.

The first thing you need to do is figure out why the timing is off. Is it a check engine light for a cam/crank correlation code? That could be a stretched chain or a faulty sensor.
