Does the score reset when renewing an expired license?

Renewing an expired driver's license does not reset the penalty points. The clearance of penalty points is calculated based on the driver's license scoring cycle, not on whether the license is renewed. License renewal and inspection must meet the following conditions: Holders of large passenger vehicle, tractor, city bus, medium passenger vehicle, or large truck driver's licenses must have no penalty points in the current scoring cycle, or holders of other types of driver's licenses must have fewer than 12 penalty points in the current scoring cycle; Holders of large passenger vehicle, tractor, city bus, medium passenger vehicle, or large truck driver's licenses who have penalty points in a scoring cycle, as well as holders of other types of driver's licenses involved in traffic accidents resulting in death and bearing equal or greater responsibility without having their driver's licenses revoked, must have completed the inspection education; The applicant must have no pending road traffic safety violations or traffic accidents; The applicant's physical condition must meet the driving permit requirements; The driver's license must not be seized, detained, suspended, revoked, canceled, or annulled by law.
Last time when renewing my driver's license, I specifically asked a friend at the traffic police department. The points clearance and license renewal dates are not linked! The demerit point cycle is calculated based on the date you first obtained your license. For example, if you got your license in March, your points will be automatically cleared every March. Even if your renewal date is in May, the points clearance date remains unchanged in March. Here's the key point: If you accumulate 12 points before renewal, the system will automatically lock your file, and you must retake the theory test (Subject 1) to get a new license. Remember, you can apply for renewal on the 12123 APP three months before expiration. Don't be like my friend who let it expire for a year and had to retake the test after cancellation.
