Do You Need to Press Both the Clutch and Brake When Shifting Gears?

When shifting gears, you don't need to press both the clutch and brake; only the clutch is required. Generally, whether to press the brake depends on the situation—for example, you need to press the brake when going uphill. For manual transmission vehicles, you must press the clutch when shifting gears, and it must be pressed all the way down. The clutch is located in the flywheel housing between the engine and the transmission. The clutch assembly is fixed to the rear plane of the flywheel with screws, and the output shaft of the clutch is the input shaft of the transmission. The brake is a mechanical braking device that slows down the vehicle, also known as a decelerator. The car's brake pedal is located under the steering wheel. Pressing the brake pedal activates the brake linkage, which applies pressure to the brake shoes on the brake drum, gripping the brake disc to slow down or stop the vehicle.
