Can You Still Drive with a Noisy Manual Transmission?

You should not continue driving with a noisy manual transmission. Common causes of transmission noise: Low or deteriorated transmission fluid level, excessive or insufficient gear meshing clearance, poor gear engagement, bearing wear and damage, abnormal gear meshing clearance, gear tooth surface metal peeling, broken gear teeth, incorrect assembly alignment, or insufficient lubrication due to inadequate lubricant. Solution: Visit a 4S shop for repairs. Precautions for transmission use: Avoid parking with the gear engaged for extended periods, as this can damage the transmission. Do not keep your foot on the clutch for long durations, as it will wear out the clutch.
Can a manual transmission with abnormal noise still be driven? Definitely don't push your luck. Knocking or clicking sounds indicate potential damage to internal gears or bearings. As a mechanic who's repaired many vehicles, I've seen cases where owners stubbornly kept driving, only to completely wreck the entire transmission. The noise typically worsens during gear shifts or persists even when the clutch is depressed. In such situations, it's best to immediately pull over and check if the transmission fluid is sufficient, but more importantly, call for a tow truck right away. Transmission repairs can cost thousands, but if the entire housing is damaged, replacement becomes necessary at a much higher cost. Never risk major damage for minor savings - safety comes first.
