Technically, you can, but it's a bad idea. Doors are terrible boxes. You'll get more rattle than bass, and it's a hassle to waterproof everything. You're better off putting a good component speaker in the door for mid-bass and leaving the real subwoofer work to a proper box in the trunk. The sound difference is night and day.

I tried this once in my old Civic. I used a slim subwoofer and lined the door with sound deadener. The result? A lot of vibration and very little actual punch. It ended up sounding cheap. The trunk is just a better, safer place for a sub. The door is best for speakers that handle the punchy mid-bass, not the super-low notes. Save yourself the trouble.

From a cost and result perspective, installing a subwoofer in the door is inefficient. The money spent on a specialized shallow subwoofer and copious sound-deadening mats would be better invested in a higher-quality traditional sub and box. You'll get significantly better bass performance per dollar spent by using the trunk space. The door installation introduces too many variables that work against clean bass.
