The law is clear: your view of the road has to be clear. That helmet is a big obstruction. It’s not worth the fine and the points on your license. Just don’t do it.

It sounds like a safety idea, but it’s actually the opposite, especially with kids. I worry about everything, but the car's airbags are designed to work with you as you are. Putting a helmet on a child in their car seat is extremely dangerous. In a crash, the airbag could hit the helmet and cause serious neck injuries. The car seat and seatbelt are what keep them safe, not a helmet.

It's impractical and unsafe. You lose your side vision, which is essential for merging and checking blind spots. The helmet is hot, uncomfortable, and blocks out important road sounds like sirens or horns. If you're thinking about it for sun protection or a medical reason, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses are a much safer, legal solution that won't get you pulled over.

From an engineering standpoint, it’s a terrible mismatch. Motorcycle helmets are designed for a single, massive impact and for a rider who is completely exposed. A car is a safety cage with crumple zones and airbags. The SRS expects your head to move in a specific way during a crash. A helmet changes the entire dynamic, making the airbag itself a hazard. You're compromising a tested, integrated system for untested, isolated protection.
