Emgrand GL can close the windows with the remote control after the engine is turned off. Opening the windows: Press the button to the first gear position. Excessive force will reach the second gear. Release the button when the window moves to the desired position. Press the button firmly to the second gear position, and the window glass will automatically lower completely to open. Closing the windows: Pull the switch to the first gear and hold it until the window moves to the desired position. Pull the button slightly harder to the second gear, and the window will automatically rise. The owner can also control the one-touch up and down of the windows using the lock and unlock buttons on the key. Hold the lock button for more than 3 seconds, and all windows will rise and close. Hold the unlock button for more than 3 seconds, and all windows will lower and open. Manual activation: The button on the armrest needs to be activated before setting. Start the engine, hold the switch down for 5 seconds without releasing, then hold it up for 5 seconds and release. After the learning is completed, it can be activated.

The Emgrand GL I drive is the 2018 model, and I've specifically tested this feature. After turning off the engine, press and hold the lock button on the remote key for about three seconds, and all four windows will automatically roll up, and the sunroof will close as well. However, there are two details to note: first, you need to operate within two to three meters of the vehicle, as the signal may be lost if you're too far away; second, the base manual transmission models may not have this function and would require an additional module. Once, I forgot to close the sunroof at a mall and used this trick just before it started to rain—it was really handy. I recommend all car owners check the key voltage during maintenance, as the remote range shortens when the voltage is low.

Last time when helping a friend modify the window module of their Emgrand GL, I found that for models without factory-installed remote window closing, spending around a hundred bucks to install an OBD interface controller can achieve this function. After the modification, holding down the key when locking the car is most practical for leaving a small gap in the window for ventilation. However, special attention must be paid to whether the anti-pinch function is working properly. Once during a test, I used a water bottle to block the window frame, and the system automatically rolled the window back down upon sensing resistance. Additionally, it's recommended to seek professional shops for circuit modifications, as haphazard wiring by oneself can easily blow fuses.

The year I just picked up my Emgrand GL, I specifically asked the 4S dealership, and the salesperson said that remote window-closing function comes standard across all trims. The operation is particularly simple: after turning off the car, hold down the lock button on the key fob without releasing it, and when you see the hazard lights flash twice, it means the function has been successfully triggered. I remember the first time I used it was downstairs in my residential area, and a neighbor saw the windows automatically rolling up and even asked me if it was a luxury car. However, after prolonged use, the buttons on the key fob might become unresponsive due to poor contact—simply replacing the coin will fix it. This feature is especially handy on rainy days, much more convenient than running back to the car to power on and close the windows.

Once when I took my Emgrand GL camping, it suddenly rained in the middle of the night and I realized the windows weren't fully closed. I tried holding down the lock button, and it actually remotely closed the windows, keeping all the raindrops out. Later, I specifically checked the manual and found that models after 2017 come with this feature, but older models need a system upgrade to get it. A daily use reminder for everyone: when closing the windows, make sure to check the window slots for any stuck leaves or small cards, as foreign objects can prevent the windows from closing properly. Also, avoid using this function in extreme weather—windows might freeze if it's too cold.

The remote window closing feature of the Emgrand GL is quite user-friendly. After the car has been baking in the summer sun, you can first open the windows to ventilate. After turning off the engine, a short press on the unlock button lowers the windows to release heat, followed by a long press on the lock button to close the windows—the whole process feels like playing with a remote-controlled car. Once, a colleague was amazed when they saw me closing the windows without even getting into the car. However, it's important to be mindful of issues. I usually pull the door handle after closing the windows to ensure the car is locked. Also, be extra cautious about accidentally triggering the window roll-up if the key is pressed in your pocket, as it could potentially pinch a child's fingers.
