Can a car be equipped with a roof rack?

Roof racks can be installed, but it depends on the situation. In my opinion, installing a roof rack can be divided into two scenarios. One is when the vehicle comes with a roof rack from the factory, and additional racks are installed as needed later. The other is when the vehicle does not come with a roof rack from the factory, and it needs to be installed afterward. According to the "Motor Vehicle Inspection Work Regulations" (GA801-2019): Installing a roof rack without changing the vehicle's length, width, or main body structure and ensuring safety does not require registration or modification of the vehicle license. Additionally, the installed rack must not affect the vehicle's length and width, and the height of the rack must not exceed 300mm. Article 54 of the "Implementation Regulations of the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China" states that the load carried by a motor vehicle must not exceed the approved load capacity specified on the vehicle license, and the length and width of the load must not exceed the dimensions of the vehicle body. The following regulations must also be observed: Passenger vehicles are not allowed to carry cargo except for the external roof rack and built-in luggage compartment. When carrying cargo on the roof rack of a passenger vehicle, the height from the roof must not exceed 0.5 meters, and the height from the ground must not exceed 4 meters.

Last time before our family road trip, I did thorough research on roof racks. Actually most vehicles can be equipped with them, but the key is to check the permitted load capacity marked on the vehicle registration certificate. I bought a set of quick-release aluminum alloy racks that were particularly easy to install - I did it myself in just half an hour. When not in use, I simply store them away. With a load capacity of 30kg, it's enough for three suitcases. However, during installation, you must pay attention to positioning the crossbars outside the sunroof opening area. It's best to choose models with anti-vibration rubber pads, otherwise the wind noise at high speeds can be terrible. My neighbor ended up with a dented roof because of improper installation, costing over 2,000 yuan in repairs. After installation, fuel consumption does increase by about 0.5 liters, especially noticeable on long trips, but when you're short on space, this is indeed the optimal solution.

As a regular at auto modification shops, I must say the most crucial aspect of installing roof racks is choosing the right compatible model. The market mainly offers two types of mounting systems: clip-on and clamp-on. I recommend prioritizing OEM parts—though they cost 30% more, the interfaces fit perfectly. Once, while helping a friend install an aftermarket rack, I discovered his roof rails had unique spacing, forcing us to change plans last minute and waste money. Don't fully trust the advertised load capacity; I tested a popular product that started creaking beyond 25kg. After installation, remember to file for modification registration at the DMV, especially with clear photos of mounting points. Regularly inspect sealing strips during car washes—I've seen cases of rubber deterioration causing leaks.

During the Spring Festival trip back home, I tried using a roof rack, but the experience was far from ideal. In the so-called expanded space, only two hard-shell suitcases could fit, while soft bags allowed for more. Securing the luggage was particularly troublesome—the net would either scratch the car paint if tightened too much or risk items flying off if left too loose. The biggest headache was the height restriction; entering underground parking required extra caution. Once at a mall, I scraped a newly bought surfboard against a height limit bar. For low-frequency use, I wouldn’t recommend it—installation and removal are cumbersome, and storage takes up space. Now, I’ve switched to a roof box. Although more expensive, it’s theft-proof and weather-resistant.

Does Replacing the Radiator Support Count as a Major Accident?

Replacing the radiator support counts as a major accident. If a vehicle has had its radiator support replaced, it indicates that the front bumper, front crash beam, radiator, grille, headlights, and engine hood have also been replaced. The radiator support can affect the vehicle's driving stability. Methods to identify an accident vehicle include: 1. Check if the gaps around the entire body vary significantly; 2. Inspect the paint surface for smoothness and tap panels to listen for a dull or crisp sound; 3. Test the force required to open all four doors; 4. Examine the body's welding spots for obvious signs; 5. Enter the vehicle and check the interior panels for signs of looseness.

What Temperature Can Tires Withstand?

Different grades of tires have varying degrees of heat resistance. Some can withstand 180 degrees, while others can handle up to 200 degrees. Specific details are as follows: 1. Class A wheels: For Class A vehicles typically traveling at 120 km/h, the wheel temperature can approach 100 degrees. The brake temperature can reach up to 200 degrees. 2. Normal operating temperature of tires: Under normal conditions, tires operate within a temperature range of 90-110 degrees. Tire insulation covers can generally maintain the temperature within a controllable range. Additionally, excessively high tire temperatures can lead to premature wear and aging. 3. Proper usage methods: It is important to protect tires from accelerated wear during daily use. Avoiding unnecessary damage and destruction can significantly extend the lifespan of the tires.
