Can a broken motorcycle footrest be welded?

It can be welded, but the weld may not be very strong. Since the shaft connecting the kickstarter and the engine is made of iron, welding is possible. However, the repair may not be very durable, so it is recommended to replace the footrest with a new one. Introduction to scooter motorcycles: A scooter refers to a motorcycle with a wide footboard between the seat and the handlebars, allowing the rider to comfortably place their feet on it, similar to sitting on a chair, without the need to straddle the bike like other motorcycles. Clutch of scooter motorcycles: Scooters mostly feature continuously variable transmission (CVT) with an automatic clutch, similar to electric scooters. They do not have gear designs—once started, you simply twist the throttle to move, and releasing the throttle will gradually slow down and stop the bike automatically. Additionally, the wheels of scooters are smaller than those of other motorcycles, and the transmission is mostly belt-driven, commonly referred to as 'step-through' or 'women's motorcycles.'
I have a motorcycle, and the footpeg broke. I tried welding it once. After welding, it felt okay to ride, but the weld cracked within a few days, which scared me into replacing it immediately. It depends on the material—steel footpegs have a higher chance of being welded, but the welded area is usually under stress, posing long-term risks. If it fails while riding, it could be very dangerous. I suggest you first assess the break location and material, and consult a professional welder. If that's not feasible, it's safer to just replace the footpeg. During regular maintenance, pay extra attention to these wear-prone parts—it saves a lot of hassle, as riding safety should always come first.
