Are the Oil Filter Element and Oil Filter the Same Thing?

Oil filter element and oil filter are the same thing. The oil filter, also known as the oil cartridge, is used to remove impurities such as dust, metal particles, carbon deposits, and soot particles from the engine oil, thereby protecting the engine. Oil filters can be classified into full-flow and bypass types. The full-flow filter is connected in series between the oil pump and the main oil passage, filtering all the lubricating oil entering the main oil passage. The bypass filter is connected in parallel with the main oil passage, filtering only a portion of the lubricating oil pumped by the oil pump. During engine operation, metal shavings, dust, oxidized carbon deposits and gum deposits under high temperatures, water, and other contaminants continuously mix into the lubricating oil. The role of the oil filter is to remove these mechanical impurities and gum, maintaining the cleanliness of the lubricating oil and extending its service life.

I've encountered this issue before. I remember an old mechanic at the repair shop once told me that essentially, the oil filter element and the oil filter refer to the same component - it's the device that filters out metal fragments and impurities from the engine oil. Some people prefer to call it the filter element, while others are used to saying oil filter, but there's no actual difference. Though small, this part is absolutely critical. If it fails, the engine could develop problems in no time. My advice is to always replace the oil filter whenever you change the engine oil. It only costs a few dozen yuan, which is much more economical than major engine repairs. Don't fall for some repair shops' claims that it doesn't need replacement - think about it, if you put in fresh oil but the filter is still clogged with old contaminants, isn't that a wasted oil change? If you're doing it yourself, make sure to get the right size and don't buy the wrong model.

Haha, speaking of this, I have deep personal experience. The first time I did my own car maintenance, I couldn't even tell them apart. Later, I figured out that the filter paper cylinder inside the oil filter assembly is the filter element. In daily conversation, these two terms are basically interchangeable. Last time when I went to the 4S shop for an oil change, I noticed the mechanic's operation and realized that nowadays they mostly replace the entire assembly rather than just the filter element. By the way, when choosing a filter, pay attention to the filtration precision. My friend bought a cheap no-name brand to save money, and it got clogged in just three months, even triggering the engine warning light. Remember to check the corresponding model in the maintenance manual, and when shopping online, pay attention to whether you're buying the metal-shell type or the paper-core type. It's best to check this thing before long-distance trips—if it's clogged, it can affect oil pressure, and you'll feel like the acceleration is sluggish while driving.

As a mechanic with over a decade of experience, I can definitively say that 'oil filter cartridge' is the common term for an oil filter. Most products on the market today feature an integrated canister design with internal filtering media that removes contaminants from the oil. Many car owners overlook this component during oil changes, but continuing to drive with a saturated filter actually increases fuel consumption. Genuine branded filters can remove particles smaller than 15 microns, effectively extending engine life. When installing, tighten it securely but avoid excessive force to prevent thread stripping.

From a technical perspective, the oil filter primarily consists of a housing and an internal filter element. When performing maintenance, replacing the filter element actually means replacing the entire filter assembly. This is similar to how water purifiers require regular filter changes. After repeated use, engine oil accumulates impurities like metal shavings and carbon deposits, which are filtered out by this component. During a previous disassembly of filters from different brands, I noticed that premium products feature higher-density filter paper. A pro tip: always apply some fresh oil on the rubber sealing ring during installation to prevent oil leaks from poor sealing. Though this component may seem insignificant, it plays a vital role in protecting the engine's core.

When I first started with car maintenance, I couldn't tell the difference between these two terms either. Later, the technician explained to me that the oil filter element is the core part of the oil filter, and nowadays they're replaced as a whole unit on the market. The lesson I learned is that you must replace the filter every time you change the oil at 5,000 kilometers - it's like a mask that gets clogged with prolonged use. During my last maintenance, I saw the mechanic cut open the old filter, and it was completely filled with black sludge. A reminder to everyone: always choose the correct model compatible with your vehicle. Installing it backwards can prevent normal oil circulation, and in severe cases, may cause sudden engine stall. Marking the replacement date on maintenance records is very practical to avoid overdue usage.

Where is the sunroof drain pipe of Haval H9 located?

Haval H9's sunroof drain pipe is located in the A-pillar. Here are some related details: 1. A leaking sunroof can cause malfunctions in many electronic devices inside the car. To prevent clogging of the sunroof drain holes, it's advisable to clean the dust around the sunroof drain holes during maintenance. 2. There is a sealant ring around the sunroof glass of the car. During rain, some water may enter the sunroof track through this sealant ring, and this water can be drained outside the car through the drain holes on the sunroof track. If the sunroof drain holes are clogged, rainwater may accumulate on the sunroof track and enter the interior of the car. To check if the sunroof drain holes are clogged, you can simply open the sunroof and pour a small amount of water onto the sunroof track. If the water drains smoothly, then there is no clogging.
