
To ensure a safe and compliant installation of the SIEMENS ZS-30 Intrinsically Safe Module in a hazardous location, follow these crucial steps:
Grounding: It is imperative to remove the System 3 chassis ground. Each grounding conductor must be directly connected to the grounding connections on the barrier device. These should run directly to the ground electrode without intersecting any other paths. The ground wires should be either 14 or 18 AWG and have an impedance that does not exceed 1 ohm. All ground wires must be connected individually to the same ground location.
Wiring: When it comes to wiring connected to the barrier output, specifically terminals 1 and 5, it is crucial that these are grouped with other intrinsically safe circuits. These wires should not be run through conduits that contain non-intrinsically safe circuits. Use rigid conduit for wiring from the control unit enclosure to the intrinsically safe zone. Seal off the hazardous area using standard EY conduit seals with Chico X fiber and Chico A sealing compound.
Devices: You can incorporate non-energy storing devices, like manual stations, into the detector loop, provided they are connected in parallel with the barrier output. These devices must not have any energy-storing components and must be Factory Mutual approved. Remember to keep the maximum detector loop resistance under 50 ohms.
Maximum Inductance and Capacitance: Cables or wires connected to the barrier output should adhere to specific maximum inductance and capacitance values, which depend on the group classification (A, B, C, D, E, F, G).
Additional Considerations: Always ensure the maximum loop resistance does not surpass 50 ohms. The maximum safe system voltage is 250 VAC. Only mechanical, non-energy storing shorting devices are permitted. Avoid any connections to terminal 6 of the DI-31S BA SU NNECTION, as this would compromise the module's intrinsically safe application.
