Installing the RECPRO RP-1669 breakaway switch ensures your trailer's safety. Here's how:
Mounting the Breakaway Switch: Choose a flat, horizontal spot on your trailer frame, near the hitch. Use a bolt (minimum ¼" diameter) to secure the switch. The bolt should allow the switch to swivel and withstand 75lbs of pull.
Lanyard Cable Connection: Make sure the lanyard cable moves freely, without strain, during turns. Secure it to your tow vehicle's frame, not the safety chains or hitch ball. Avoid cable dragging or tangling. Use tape or zip ties.
Wiring the Switch: Consult the wiring diagram included with your RECPRO RP-1669. Ensure connections are clean and tight.
Testing the Breakaway Switch: Disconnect your trailer's cord from the tow vehicle. Pull the lanyard pin to activate the brakes. Try to move the tow vehicle forward to confirm brake engagement. Re-insert the pin to disengage the brakes. Reconnect the trailer cable.
Regular : Test the breakaway switch before and after each trip. Check the lanyard cable for damage. Keep your trailer battery charged. Never use the breakaway switch as a parking brake. For further assistance, contact RECPRO at (574) 848-0405 or info@recpro.com.
