To prevent a sofa from sliding on a tile floor, the primary goal is to increase the friction between the sofa's legs and the smooth surface of the tile. There are several effective methods to achieve this, ranging from commercially available products to do-it-yourself solutions.
A widely recommended and reliable solution is to use specially designed furniture grippers or pads. These products, often made of dense rubber or a similar high-friction material, are placed directly under the sofa's feet. They come in various forms, including self-adhesive pads that stick to the bottom of the legs, as well as coaster-style cups that the legs sit inside. These are designed to firmly grip the tile surface, preventing movement without damaging the floor. They are available in different shapes and sizes to accommodate various types of sofa feet.
For a more do-it-yourself approach, several household items can be repurposed effectively. One common suggestion is to use a non-slip rug pad. You can cut small squares from the pad, sized to match the bottom of the sofa legs, and place them underneath. Similarly, the rubbery, non-adhesive shelf liner used in kitchen cabinets can serve the same purpose. These materials create a high-friction barrier between the furniture and the tile. For a more semi-permanent fix, some have found success by applying a small amount of clear silicone caulk or a few dabs of hot glue to the bottom of the sofa feet and letting it dry completely before placing the sofa back on the floor. This creates a custom-fitted rubbery grip on each leg.
