Sliding sofa cushions can be a persistent source of frustration, but several effective do-it-yourself solutions can resolve the issue without requiring permanent alterations to your furniture. These methods primarily focus on increasing friction between the cushion and the sofa base.
One of the most popular and effective techniques is to use a non-slip rug pad. You can purchase a standard rug pad and cut it to a size slightly smaller than your sofa cushions. By placing the cut piece of the pad directly on the sofa frame underneath each cushion, you create a high-friction surface that grips the cushion and prevents it from sliding forward.
As an alternative, rubber shelf liner offers a similar solution and can be a more budget-friendly option. Much like the rug pad method, you simply cut the liner to fit under the cushions to add the necessary grip. For a more secure attachment, you can use adhesive hook-and-loop tape, also known as Velcro. Apply one side of the tape to the bottom of the cushion and the corresponding side to the sofa deck. When pressed together, the strips lock the cushion firmly in place, though this is a slightly more involved solution. Each of these methods provides a simple and reliable way to keep your sofa looking neat and feeling comfortable.
