To ensure your HEFTY FABWORKS 2005 + Xterra Front Skid Plate provides lasting protection, proper preparation and painting are key. Here's a step-by-step guide based on the HEFTY FABWORKS instructions: First, prep the skid plate. Start by cleaning it thoroughly with 80-100 grit sandpaper, followed by a light solvent. Apply a light coat of primer, following the manufacturer's specifications for the best results, using products like Dupli-Color or Rust-Oleum. Next, paint the skid plate or apply a bedliner. Allow it to dry overnight in a well-ventilated area. The following parts are included Skid Plate, 4 M12x1.25x35 Bolts, 2 M8x1.25x30 Bolts, 4 M6x1.0x12 Bolts (already installed), 2 ½”-20x1 ½” Bolts, 2 Hex Nuts ½”-20, 4 ½” Washers, and 6 ½” Lock Washers. You'll need these tools: a 19mm socket, 17mm socket, 13mm socket, 10mm socket, 4mm Allen wrench, and ½” drill bit. For installation, it’s best to start with the Gas Tank, then T-case, Transmission, Engine, and Radiator. If you have the Engine skid plate, install it first using its instructions. Remove the stock front skid plate. Use the provided M12x1.25x35 bolts to mount the front slots under the frame rails in the stock threaded holes. Do not tighten them yet. Install the M8 bolts from the bottom. Center the skid plate and tighten all bolts. Drill the outside ½” holes into the frame. If you have the Engine Skid installed, use the existing holes. Install the bolts with the corresponding hardware and tighten securely. This process will ensure your HEFTY FABWORKS skid plate is ready to protect your vehicle.
