Don't let a wax spill on your beautiful velvet sofa cause you to panic. This might look like a furniture catastrophe, but you can absolutely restore the fabric with a surprisingly simple and effective method. Trust the process, and you'll have that luxurious velvet looking pristine again in no time.
Your first step is to address the solid wax on the surface. You'll want the wax to be as hard and brittle as possible, so let it cool completely. To speed this up, you can even place an ice cube in a plastic bag and hold it against the spill. Once it's fully hardened, gently scrape off as much of the excess wax as you can. A credit card or a dull butter knife works perfectly for this; the key is to be gentle and work with the grain of the velvet to avoid damaging the delicate pile.
Now, for the wax that has soaked into the fibers, you'll use a little heat to draw it out. Place a clean paper towel or a piece of a brown paper bag directly over the remaining wax stain. Set an iron to a low, dry setting, making absolutely sure that the steam function is off. Gently press the warm iron onto the paper for a few seconds. The heat will melt the wax, and the absorbent paper will pull it right out of the fabric. Lift the paper and you'll see the oily stain it has absorbed. Move to a clean section of the paper and repeat the process until no more wax is being drawn out. With a little patience, this technique works wonders and can completely remove the evidence of the spill, allowing you to get back to enjoying your gorgeous sofa.
