Ah, the dreaded slime-on-velvet incident. A true modern tragedy. Before you dramatically throw a sheet over the couch and accept its new, sticky fate, know that all is not lost. You can absolutely rescue your sophisticated sofa from this gooey menace.
First, you'll need to play it cool, literally. Scrape off as much of the offending slime as you can with a spoon or a dull knife. For the stubborn bits that have become one with the fabric, grab some ice cubes. Press them against the slime until it freezes solid, then you should be able to break off the frozen chunks. This is your initial physical assault before we bring in the chemical warfare.
Next, it’s time to call in the unsung hero of the cleaning cabinet: plain white vinegar. Mix a solution of two-thirds white vinegar and one-third water. Now, remember your velvet’s delicate disposition. We do not scrub! Find an inconspicuous spot on the sofa to test the solution first. Once you've confirmed your velvet won't have a meltdown, gently dab the vinegar solution onto the stain with a clean cloth. Let it sit for a few minutes to work its magic and dissolve the slime's unholy bond with the fibers.
After the vinegar has had a moment to negotiate, blot the area with a clean, dry cloth to soak up the dissolved goo and the solution. Then, lightly dab the spot with another cloth dampened with just plain water to rinse away the vinegar. Let it air dry completely. Once it’s dry, use a soft-bristled brush to gently fluff the pile of the velvet back to its former glory. Your sofa will be back to its glamorous, slime-free self in no time.
