The value of an 1890-O silver dollar is entirely dependent on its physical condition, or grade. As a common date coin, its worth can range from a modest amount for circulated examples to tens of thousands of dollars for pristine, uncirculated specimens.
For coins that show wear from circulation, values typically range from approximately $35 for a coin in Good (G-4) condition to about $50 for one in About Uncirculated (AU-58) condition. These circulated pieces are readily available to collectors.
The value increases significantly for uncirculated, or Mint State (MS), coins. In the lower Mint State grades, from MS-60 to MS-62, the coin is valued from about $60 to $90. As the grade improves, the price climbs accordingly. An MS-63 example is valued around $125, while an MS-64 coin is worth approximately $225.
The 1890-O becomes considerably more valuable and rarer in gem-quality condition. A coin graded MS-65 can be worth between $600 and $650. The price rises exponentially from there, with an MS-66 valued at roughly $3,250. For a top-grade MS-67 specimen, the value can exceed $32,500, with past auction records showing even higher prices. Therefore, an accurate valuation requires a professional assessment of the coin's specific grade.
